Each pedestal with a tilt top, the rounded rectangular top with reeded edge, on ring-turned and reeded supports, on downswept reeded legs headed by lotus-leaf carved knees, square brass caps and castors, inscribed in chalk to the underside '185', six brass clips
28 in. (73 cm.) high; 13 ft. 9 in. (420 cm.) long, fully extended; the end sections 37 in. (94 cm.) long; one middle section 48 in. (122 cm.) long; the other middle section 47 in. (120 cm.) long; 66 in. (168 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

This dining-table with its reeded top and square tapering reeded legs relates to furniture made by the Dublin firm of Mack, Williams and Gibton (circa 1812-1829). Inspired by the designs published by Thomas Hope and George Smith, they were renowned for their use of superb timbers and their high quality of workmanship.
A related dining-table bearing the firm's label, was sold anonymously, Christie's New York, 21 January 1999, lot 319 and a further circular breakfast-table stamped by the firm, was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 6 February 1997, lot 171.
