In the early 1940's, Rolex submitted some 140 model 5056 Oysters for testing at the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, England. These tests were even more stringent than the chronometer rating tests conducted at observatories in Switzerland. Watches with a Kew 'A' Certificate are among the rarest of all Rolex watches. This particular watch is accompanied by a certificate first issued on the 20 July 1948.
