With nickel-finished eight day lever movement, the dial with outer 18K white gold and mother-of-pearl chapter ring displaying roman 24 hours and engraved baton 60 minutes, the center in 18K yellow gold and blue mother-of-pearl dial depicting a star-spangled sky, surrounded by gold signs of the zodiac, the yellow gold hour hand tipped with a sun, the minute hand with a moon, the case in rock crystal and 18K white gold, surmounted by an 18K white gold winged Lion of Venice holding an open Bible with the inscription Pax tibi Marce Evangelista meus (Peace with you, my Evangelist Mark), four 'porthole windows' set with hawk's eye gemstones to front and reverse, the sides encrusted with lapis lazuli plates studded with gold stars and a P for Piaget, the reverse with a dial similar to the main dial in 18K white gold and blue mother-of-pearl with blue mother-of-pearl center set with a yellow gold sun and stars, centered by a circular gold plate with lion motif, the winding and hour setting mechanism activated by pressing and unlocking the plate, together with Piaget Certificate of Authenticity, original fitted wooden presentation box and outer metal transportation box, case stamped, movement signed

Lot Essay

The clock features two dials, like the Torre dell'Orologio in Venice. The specificity of the movement is to display the 24 hours on the dial. Like the Venice clock it takes one day for the hours hand to run completely around the dial.
The lion is an exact replica of the marble Lion of Venice adorning the faade of the Torre dell'Orologio in Venice, representing the peace which Venice guaranteed its territories.
