Lot Essay

Ceramists of the period were fascinated with glaze techniques and there was much experimentation with new glazes as well as a revival of old ones. Edmond Lachenal is known for having developed a flambe glaze which resembled cloisonne enamel, which he then applied over a pale crackled ground. Many of the leading ceramists of the Art Deco period, such as Emile Decoeur and Henri Simmens, spent time in his studio.
