Lot Essay

In the 1920s, the Parisian firm of Christofle commissioned designers such as Gio Ponti, Maurice Daurat, Andre Groult, Paul Follot and Christian Fjerdlingstad to create utilitarian and decorative silverplate. They also purchased many of the patents for the process of electroplate which had been developed in the previous century and during the Art Deco period produced a large quantity of well-designed electroplate with clean, geometric lines and form.
