An important 19th-Century lacquered-brass 2.5/8in. transit telescope,
signed Dollond London, the 45in. (106.2cm.) long body-tube with two lens caps, one with magnification lens, the cover engraved with fine adjustment scale 10-0/-10, the other with two dust slides and protective cover, the centre boss of the pyramid-shaped trunnions with maker's signature, the rear body-tube with twin vertical circles, the 4.5/8in. dia. silvered scales with two verniers and magnifiers, tangent-screw fine adjustment and clamps, with twin bubble levels, the axis supported by an outer casing, with silvered micrometer adjuster, various accessories including three eyepieces, two knurled adjustment screws, two brass mounting plates, a cross bubble with ivory scale graduated 80-0-80, mounted on a painted wood triangular section support and an additional cross bubble with black enamel axis, bubble level and sighting tube, one short telescope extension tube with appropriate eyepiece missing, each component secured in the original mahogany carrying case by leather straps and buckles, the 50in. (128.3cm.) carrying case fitted with two gilded hinges, two brass hooks and eyes, and four swing carrying handles
