A rare late 17th-Century five-bulb hour glass,
the upper series of four bulbs united with the base bulb, the joint protected by green plush binding, contained in a leather-covered wood sliding cylinder within an outer cylinder, both fitted with longitudal appertures to enable the glass to be read and then turned for concealment and protection, the leather-covered wood cylinders decorated with repeating gilt motifs -- 11in. (28.5cm.) high
