An extremely fine and detailed 1/12th scale model of a single horizontal cylinder bayonet frame Corliss valve condensing mill engine originally built by Benjamin Goodfellow, Hyde, circa 1890
and modelled by A. Walshaw No.579 with brass bound blued steel clad cylinder and steam chest, the cylinder 1in. bore x 3in. stroke, lagged inlet manifold with main stop valve and displacement lubricator, cylinder warming steam valve and pipe, drain cocks and pipes, Goodfellow/Corliss valve gear operated by pierced eccentrics with barrelled rods, inlet valve mechanism dampers, studded stuffing boxes, frame incorporated crosshead guide, the lower slipper with oil boxes with hinged covers, the little end with oiler, barrelled connecting rod with marine type big end with pressure lubricator, waisted crank, the crankshaft supported in two main bearings mounted in trunnions, both with oil boxes and pipes (one cover missing), gear driven dummy Porter governor and linkage and spoked flywheel built up in two sections, the rim with rope grooves and barring teeth. Further details include crosshead driven underfloor mounted condenser, air and feed pumps, hand barring mechanism, crank guard and hand rails, the whole finished in light green, black and polished brightwork and mounted on a black and white simulated tiled floor and painted plinth -- 14 x 27in. (36.8 x 69.8cm.) Display base
