A finely engineered museum display quality 1/12th scale model of the 500 hp Premier Tandem Positive Scavenge Gas Engine originally built by the Premier Gas Engine Co. Ltd, Sandiacre, near Nottingham, 1900
and modelled by A. Walshaw No.291 with tandem waterjacketed power cylinders 2in. bore x 3in. stroke and a tandem scavenge cylinder 3in. bore, dummy piston watercooling, side connecting rods to centre piston with slipper type crosshead guides, the scavenge cylinder blowing air through the power cylinders to exhaust residual burnt gases, gear driven camshaft with cam and rocker operated exhaust valves, the inlet valves with pushrods, cam operated Premier patent governor, linkage and valves, eccentric operated cylinder lubricators, inlet air, water and exhaust manifolds with appropriate valves and bolted flanges, connecting rod with marine type big end, counterbalanced crankshaft, fourpart main bearings with wedge adjustment, spoked flywheel with barring ring and hand gear. Further details include frame mounted dummy round frame dynamo with two bearings with oil boxes (two covers missing) and shaft coupling, crank splash cover and laddered platforms, the whole finished in maroon, black and polished brightwork and mounted on a simulated black and white tiled floor with flywheel pit handrails -- 20 x 35in. Lot Essay

At the time of construction this engine was the most powerful gas engine in the world, developing 650hp. It was installed at Grummer Mond & Co's Winnington Works, Cheshire, to power their electrolyte plant.
