A finely engineered museum display quality .1/8th scale model of a Hick, Hargreaves & Co. Ltd twin vertical cylinder Deisel Generating Set of circa 1911
modelled by A. Walshaw No.285 with waterjacketed cylinders approx. 1in. bore x 3in. stroke mounted on and integrally cast with hollow 'A' frames, tapered connecting rods with marine type big end bearings, the counterbalanced crankshaft running in three main bearings with oil pots and wick type oil boxes driving a dummy two stage single cylinder vertical air compressor and associated pipework, the other end with shaft coupling and spoked flywheel with bearing holes, outboard thrust bearing, shaft coupling and round frame alternator with wiring and lifting rings and pedestal mounted end bearing. Other details include skew gear and shaft driven camshaft with concealed gear driven governor, cam and rocker operated overhead inlet and exhaust valves, dummy injectors, fuel pump and pipework, lubricators and pipework, inlet and exhaust manifolds, water pipework and many other details, the whole finished in brown with red lining, red, black and polished brightwork and mounted on a simulated tiled floor with laddered platform with handrailings and flywheel pit with handrails -- 24 x 35in. Engine No.E5/15
The original design for this engine came from M.A.N. in Germany, being modified by various licensees in Europe and America. It became a standard design used in factories needing their own source of electricity.
This model is built to run on propane gas, the spark plugs being concealed within the injector housing.
