Baluster-form, the sides set with moss agate panels within gold rococo cagework, the front set with a glazed panel covering a watch dial within a wheel of diamonds, emeralds and rubies, the ruby-set star spinning counterclockwise, with the diamond flowerheads spinning within the border, also counterclockwise, the base with a mirrored compartment, the gilt-metal cap with an openwork stopper, apparently unmarked

A gold-mounted agate table necessaire at the Hermitage has a watch set within a nearly identical mechanical border of diamond flowerheads spinning within a rotating ruby-set wheel. The watch dial of the Hermitage example is signed Cox, Jas. London.
