A PAIR OF CONTINENTAL SILVER FIVE-LIGHT CANDELABRA
Probably Italian, circa 1840, Maker's Mark PS
Each on circular wood-backed bases, rising to a cylindrical stem with applied frieze of military trophies, surmounted by a central standard and five panelled supports with human feet and applied with daggers and lightning bolts, headed by bearded masks alternating with flowerheads, the five branches clad in stiff-leaves with circular wax-pans and urn-form sockets, the central urn-form standard with bands of stiff-leaves and foliage surmounted by a flower finial, marked on bases and on branches, wax-pans, and sockets with French import mark for 1838-1864
