Peasants and cattle by a cottage in a river landscape

We are grateful to Mr. Willem van de Watering for the attribution, made on the basis of a photograph. The artist was a pupil of Hermanus Numan and Pieter Gerardus van Os. Examples of his oil paintings are relatively rare, but a comparable landscape was offered at Christie's, Amsterdam, 9 November 1998, lot 146.
