Lot Essay

While animal sculpture in metal is well-known from Khorassan, pottery examples are apparently unpublished. None are included in the catalogue of the Nishapur finds, nor are any included in the photographs of the Afrasiyab finds (Wilkinson, Charles K.: Nishapur, Pottery of the Early Islamic Period, Greenwich, Conn., 1973).
