Comprising a steel example of typical flaring cylindrical form, the exterior finely damascened in gold with a band of fruiting vine below a and of floral cartouches, a band of naskh inscription cartouches around the foot giving details of the commission, the interior with brass liner; together with a similar brass hookah bowl inset with turquoises and red stones in a band of palmettes between floral meander and plain beaded bands, brass liner; together with a turquoise and red stone inset cup with flaring mouth on spreading foot, the sides engraved and inset with cusped ogival panels, brass liner

Lot Essay

The commissioning inscription around the base of the first item in this lot translates: Commissioned by Hajji Muhammad Sadiq Muqaribi by the order(?) of Abu'l Qasim Isfahani, the work of Mahdi [son of] Muhammad.
