FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. FINE COPY. A record of the author's journeys through Asia during the years 1893-1897, covering 14,600 miles, "more than the distance from the north Pole to the south Pole". Of this Hedin calculated that over 2,000 miles "were through regions no European hd ever before visited". His terra incognita was Chinese Turkistan where he went in search of the sand-buried Buddhist cities and treasures of the Takla Maken. (2)
