FIRST EDITION. Six months' travel spent on leave from Columbia University in the first half of 1903 was followed up by 3 years of research for publication of this book. Zoroastrianism was a special interest. "The student of Zoroastrianism ... will find many points to consider in connection with this work, especially the numerous identifications suggested for ancient sites, or explanations proposed for doubtful passages in the literature" (preface p. ix); and two others (A.
