TAVERNIER, Jean Baptiste (1605-1689). Les Six Voyages... en Turquie, en Perse, et aux Indes. Paris: Gervais Clouzier and Claude Barbin, 1677. 2 volumes, 4 (238 x 182mm). 32 engraved plates only (of 34), 9 folding. (Vol. II lacking 3, various repairs to 8 plates, some with loss, old marginal stain to leaves 3P4 to the end.)

Two engraved portraits of the author, 2 folding maps and 7 folding plates. (First portrait and title with sections torn away and repaired, both maps torn and repaired, the first section title with neat repair to lower blank margin, lacking Z2 final ?blank.)
2 works in 3 volumes. Uniform 19th-century sheep-backed marbled boards (joints weak, spine slightly rubbed). Provenance: early inscription, dated 1699; unidentified religious institution (stamp); Action Populaire, library (stamp).
Rare early "set", including the first edition of the second work. In later editions of Tavernier's voyages the present works were almost invariably issued as parts of a single work. Cf. Blackmer 1631 (1718 edition with note regarding second work); cf. Brunet V, 681; Cordier Japonica 391 (vol. II of first work) & 393 (second work). (3)
