FIRST EDITION. Yate was ideally placed for the writing of this work: from 1894 to 1898 he served as Great Britain's Consul-General for the area, based in Meshed. Yate had a highly distinguished and energetic career in India and the Middle East, which culminated in 1904 with his return to England after serving as Baluchistan's Governor General. He was created a Baronet in 1921.
