The exterior engraved with a cartouche containing a silver damascened thuluth inscription surrounded by spiralling arabesques on a ring matted ground, similar inscription band above, the main armguard flanked by two smaller pieces attached by chain-mail, the two minor pieces similarly engraved with spiralling arabesques, mark of the Arsenal of St. Irene above, areas of design partially inlaid with gold, old repairs
