Comprising a slowly tapering cylindrical shaft supporting a baluster shaped cup, the lower end with cylindrical fitting for a socket, the interior of the cup filled with a slightly concave sheet pierced with a ring of small holes around the central slightly raised aperture, the shaft with a lower swagged band of benedictory kufic inscriptions supporting interlace drop-shaped panels, a band of benedictory naskh above between various similar inlaid decorative bands, a collar below the upper faceted section similar inlaid with silver plaited bands, the mouth with a similar band of naskh above a band of arcading, inlay well-preserved, areas of corrosion, wooden stepped base

Lot Essay

The inscriptions around the stem read:
(swagged kufic): b'il-yumn w'al-[b]araka w'al-daw[la] w'al-salama w'al-s[a'ada] (with good fortune, blessing, wealth, peace, happiness). (Naskh): al-'izz w'al-iqbal w'al-dawla w'al-salama w'al sa'a[da] (glory, prosperity, wealth, peace, happiness)
The inscription around the mouth is identical to the last, but completes the last word.
