A large pair of Japanese lacquered and gilt porcelain squat oviform jars and domed covers
with shishi finials, decorated with quatrefoil panels of ho-o in flight above breaking waves, the reverses with panels of further birds among flowering peonies issuing from rockwork, on geometric pattern grounds reserved with butterflies -- 22.in (55.9cm) high, 19th Century, (minor wear and nicks).
