Postmortem daguerreotypes, circa 1850s
One sixth-plate and one ninth-plate daguerreotype, the first with oval black and gilt paper mount, the second in plain arched-top gilt mount, each in folding morocco case. (2)

Lot Essay

The ninth-plate portrait (illus.) shows a man in his bed with pillows, the larger daguerreotype shows a half-figure male portrait, the man dressed in outdoor clothes and posed against a plain background. A note in a later hand inserted inside the case of the smaller image states that it was from Dublin, Ireland.
