A fine tintype, oval 5 x 3 in., hand-tinted and with gilt highlights, in black thermo-plastic frame, the stepped corners with raised design of branches and leaves; and an ambrotype, oval 4.3/8 x 3.3/8 in., gilt-metal mount, in brown thermo-plastic frame with raised border design of roses and thistles, the solid back an integral part of the frame, maker's credit Key on frame. Lot Essay

The tintype shows a seated three-quarter figure portrait of a young lady and the ambrotype is of a group of four Quaker ladies and gentlemen seated, full-figure in the back garden of a tall brick house, one lady holding a dark slide or printing frame. The gentleman on the left of this image is a member of the Sims family, related by marriage to Richard Dykes Alexander.
