Album containing sixty-four albumen prints including nine two-part panoramas, each 8.1/8 x 22 in., thirty-six approx. 8 x 11 in. and ten 2 x 3 in. or the reverse, occasional pencil titles and the majority with typescript title labels on mounts, titled Photographs taken in Afghanistan during the Campaigns of 1878-79 and 1879-80 on typescript label mounted on front free end, half black morocco, ruled in gilt, g.e., oblong 4to.

Lot Essay

Comprising group portraits of the Second Infantry Brigade under General Tythers, two of Officers of the Army Medical Department with the Khyber Field Force (one illus.), Afghans with rifles and another with Bactrian camels, the 'Artillery and Cavalry awaiting arrival of Yakob Khan', Officers of General C. Gough's Brigade, and two of Officers and the Company of 4th Goorkhas; panoramic views of the 'Fort and Plain of Dakka' (2), 'View of British Camp from South Hill Piquet' (2), 'City of Jellalabad from Piper's Hill', 'British Camp, Sufed Sung', 'Kabul from upper Bala Hissar', 'Bala Hissar and Palace'; and other views of the Residency, 44th Hill and Monument, 'Yakoob Khan's Tent and Guard of Honour of H.M.'s 17th Regt., Sufed Sung', the General Hospital at Jellalabad and one of 'Sikari Bagh'.
