The first album comprises mainly portraits of Prince Henry of Baattenberg at Mar Lodge and Osborne; also including a rare portrait of Prince Henry with a mahogany Tailboard camera on studio stand (illus.), theatrical studies, a group portrait at Balmoral with Queen Victori and a large group from a series taken at Coburg in 1894 by Uhlenhuth at the time of the wedding of the Grand Duke of Hesse and Princess Victoria Melita of Edinburgh and Saxe-Coburg Gotha. It was on this occasion that Tsarevitch Nicholas became engaged to the bridegroom's sister, Princess Alix of Hesse (both are included in the photograph). At least four versions of this group are in the collection of the Royal Archive at Windsor Castle.
The two amateur albums are annotated in a hand which is most likely that of Queen Victoria Eugenia of Spain, Princess Beatrice's daughter and Princess Victoria Eugnie of Battenberg before her marriage in 1906 to King Alfonso XIII. They contain portraits and views around Rosenau, Schnberg, Osborne Cottage, London, Farborough, Bagnoles-de-l'Orme and Southampton; and several images from a trip to Egypt December 1903-April 1904. Other members of the family included in the photographs are her brothers Dino, Prince Alexander of Battenberg (later Marquess of Carisbrooke), Leo, Prince Leopold of Battenberg (Lord Leopold Mountbatten) and Bumpy (Prince Maurice of Battenberg) who was killed in action during WWI; Marie, Duchess of Edinburgh and Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (widow of Princess Beatrice's brother, Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and Saxe-Coburg-Gotha) and three of her daughters; and Prince and Princess Franz Josef of Battenberg among others.
