Lot Essay

The design of the present model resulted from an experiment circa 1880 with boards of glued veneers which were shaped and cut with decorative motifs. Two chairs were created by this process but their manufacture was deemed too costly for large-scale production. Consequently different models were developed incorporating aspects of the new technology and were first advertised in the catalogue of 1888.
