Delicately enamelled to the centre with a servant pouring a glass of tea for a woman seated on a small carpet with an attendant standing behind holding a fan, enclosed by a scrollwork shaped border, the well and border reserved with various cartouches in cameu, grisaille and blue enamels including landscape, bird, flowers and waves, all on gilt floral and key-fret pattern grounds

Lot Essay

The decoration of the central panel is similar to that on an armorial soup-plate in this sale (see lot 203). This suggests that the arms were specially commissioned to be painted later on a set held in stock for this purpose.
