On spreading domed foot, decorated with cupids playing with animals, the inscription on the plain rim below reads Ehrengabe SR. Konigl. Hoheit des Prinsregenten Luitpold V. Baijern zum 10ten Deutschen: Bundes: Schiefsen: Berlin Juli 1890., the slightly tapering body set with various seventeenth Century coins, the scroll handle with sater, grotesque mask and swirling snake, the thumb-piece shaped as a monk boy holding a shield, the domed cover decorated with music playing cupids and animals, the finial shaped as a boy in medieval costume blowing a horn and holding a spear
