A farmer in a field, Bergen

In 1922 Charley's new house "De Vlerken" in Bergen (N.H.) was finished and she settled there permanently. Charley Toorop and Gerrit Rietveld who were very close friends, probably met for the first time in 1916. It is very likely that the present painting was acquired through intermediance of Rietveld.
