Lot Essay

Amongst the many scientific missions entrusted to the Croisire Noire expedition, was that of bringing stuffed animals back for the Paris Musum d'Histoire Naturelle. In January 1925, the members of the convoy, the trackers, and numerous porters, camped at Am Dafok. While their comrades were hunting, Alexandre Iacovleff sketched the animals as they passed by, and Lon Poirier went on shooting his film. As for the taxidermist, Dr. Eugne Bergoni, he prepared the numerous carcasses, which attracted vultures and wild cats.

Georges-Marie Haardt, leader of the expedition, and Louis Audouin-Dubreuil, second leader, are in the middle and right of the photograph of the camp at Am-Dafok.
