Sonrai woman, Tombouctou Femme Sonra, Tombouctou

The Sonrai, or Songhai, inhabited the area of the great bend in the Niger River. Of a highly structured society, they knew an enourmous prosperity in the 16th century, before trans-Saharan trade shifted to more easterly routes.
