Veneered all-over with blue, cream and mauve-stained tortoiseshell, the serpentine-shaped hinged top inlaid to the centre with a mother-of-pearl and abalone star, with mirrored reverse, above a shaped frieze with a drawer fitted with a shaped sliding compartment, on cabriole legs, the underside of the drawer with paper label

The cabinet-maker, T. Clifford, is listed as having worked in Stockholm during the 1860s (see T. Sylven, Mstarnas Mbler, Stockholmsarbeten 1700-1850, Stockholm, 1996, p. 81.). An almost identical table to the present example, apparently unsigned, is illustrated in C. Payne, 19th Century European Furniture, Woodbridge, 1981, p. 493.
