First quarter of the 18th Century
Painted in the Grue workshop, the first with the Flight into Egypt, with the train of camels and Hebrews stretching beyond a small hillock, the foreground with Mary and Joseph riding donkeys (slight scratching to surface), the other with the interior of a barber's shop, the barber before a window with the tools of his trade suspended outside, tonsuring or extracting lice from a seated man in a sheep-skin jacket, surrounded by inquisitive onlookers and a dog (broken through and restuck), in oval black and parcel-gilt wood frames
