A Bttger red stoneware sake ewer
Circa 1710, black ink Japanese Palace inventory no. 232 R.
After a Chinese Yixing original, the tall cylindrical neck moulded with dragons among cloud scrolls above a band of down-turned stiff leaf ornament at the shoulder, the globular body moulded with prunus, camellia and stylised orchid and with a short spout formed as a dragon's head incised with scales, above a band of moulded ruyi lappets at the footrim (minute crack to upper rim)
