Amontillados Reliquia Barbadillo This amontillado comes from the cellars of Pedro Rodriquez e Hijos, now owned by Barbadillo. This was a blend of a very old amontillado called "Soberana" that was aged in the "del Toro" cellar, and the "Hindemburg" amontillado. The "Hindemburg" amontillado came from the cellars of the Earl of Aldama who had bought all the old solera Sherries in the area in the hope of selling them on for a profit, but as he could not find a market for this wine he ended up bankrupt. Don Antonio Barbadillo Ambossy exchanged ten Manzanilla butts for every butt of Aldama's solera-aged Sherry. To this day this wine retains the very finest characteristics of prolonged ageing. This impressive amontillado has a brilliant and golden colour. Pungent, complex, dry and elegant with hints of bitter almonds and slightly salty aroma. Big and very dry in the mouth the salt-sour characteristics are reminiscent of when this Sherry was a manzanilla, together with the nuttyness from noble wood ageing, this wine is very well balanced and complex; a wine of contemplation

RARE SHERRY FROM BARBADILLO
Lying at Christie's

The following Barbadillo Sherries are known as "Barbadillo Relics" as they have been aged for so long that they are particularly rare and scarce. Although it is very dificult to tell their exact age Barbadillo's records indicate that their origins belong to the first half of the 18th century. They are presented in elegant, hand-blown decanters and individual presentation wooden boxes.
