Lot Essay

The Amesbury Coursing Club was established in 1822. The first day of each meeting was held at Stonehenge where, according to Goodlake's Coursing Manual of 1828, 'coursing hares had taken place as long as that celebrated relict had stood', the hares having extraordinary speed and stoutness. Mr Brown's famous black dog Bedlamite won the Druid Cup at Stonehenge in 1852.
