A MATCHED SET OF EARLY LOUIS XIV WALNUT SEAT FURNITURE
Comprising a pair of fauteuils and a set of six side chairs, each with rectangular padded back and seat covered in gros and petit-point tapestry decorated with peacocks and other birds and animals within foliage, the fauteuils decorated with a cartouche, one depicting dancing country folk, the other dancing country figures, the chairs with ring-turned baluster legs joined by stretchers and on bun feet, the fauteuils with waved arms with scrolling terminals, above scrolling legs joined by a conforming H-shaped stretcher and on scrolling feet, the fauteuils possibly rerailed, the side chairs with some replacements to the toprail and the stretchers (8)

An almost identical pair of Spanish baroque walnut armchairs, upholstered in cream and green patterned silk, was sold in Christie's N.Y. 24-25/9/97 $9,775 in the Collection of the New England Museum once belonging to Mrs. Salomon R. Guggenheim.
