Lot Essay

A somewhat similar table was sold from the Heywood Manor Collection, Sotheby's, 12 October 1984, lot 58, bearing a label recording that it had been the property of Colonel Richard Pickering of Darton, and that it appeared in an inventory of 1660 for Willow House, Darton, formerly in the ownership of the Pickering family.
