Lot Essay

The Shropshire artist, Thomas Weaver, the son and grandson of farmers, received his early training from John Boultbee. His patrons included the famous agriculturalist Thomas Coke, 1st Earl of Leicester, Viscount Anson and Sir Charles Banbury. Weaver was also renowned for his publicity portraits of livestock for breeders and a number of plates were engraved after his work, both of cattle and equestrian portraits.
