Vase-shaped and on spreading shaped-circular foot, cast and chased with scrolls and matted acanthus foliage, the knop cast and chased with flowers and foliage, the body chased and applied overall with flowers and matted leaves, with two scroll handles cast and chased with flowers and acanthus foliage, with everted acanthus rim, the detachable domed cover chased with a broad band of scrolls and matted acanthus foliage, with detachable finial formed as a horse with foal, the body with shaped cartouche engraved with an inscription, marked on body, cover, finial and nut

Lot Essay

The 1834 Gold Cup at Catterick was run on 3 April. It was won by the Duke of Leeds' Lot by Lottery, a four year old ridden by Templeman. The prize fund was 130 and ten horses ran over a course of two miles.
