Large 2 (560 x 370mm). 36 hand-coloured lithographic plates, one folding, by John and Elizabeth Gould [assisted by E. Lear], printed by Charles Hullmandel. (Some light spotting.) Contemporary tan half morocco (corners bumped, area of loss to compartment at foot of spine, covers somewhat faded with small area of damage to fore-edge of lower cover).
FIRST EDITION of Gould's second monograph. It was published in three parts between April 1835 and March 1838. Twelve of the thirty-four species illustrated here were new to science. Anker 171; Fine Bird Books p. 77; Nissen IVB 381; Sauer 4; Zimmer p. 253.
