Large 2 (553 x 370mm). 1p. list of subscribers. 32 fine hand-coloured lithographic plates by Gould and Henry Constantine Richter, printed by Hullmandel & Walton. (Spotting to title and endpapers, margins very lightly browned.) Later brown half morocco, spine in six sections rules and lettered, lightly rubbed, t.e.g. Provenance: Lionel Phillips (armorial book plate).
GOULD'S FOURTH MONOGRAPH, THE FIRST ON GAME BIRDS, drawing and describing many new species, and dedicated to Charles Lucien Bonaparte. A certain amount of publisher's puff crept into the prospectus: it mentions Gould's belief that the work would be "found fraught with the highest interest".
