CAMPANIUS Holm, Tomas. Kort Beskrifning Om Provincien Nya Swerige uti America, Som nu frtjden af the Engelske kallas Pennsylvania. Stockholm: J.H.Werner for Sal. Wankifs, 1702.
4 (196 x 145mm). Collation: a-b; A-Aa4 (Aa4 errata leaf). Gothic type. Title in red and black with woodcut device. 5 engraved maps, 2 engraved plates, 11 woodcut illustrations (including two full-page maps and one full-page view), extra-illustrated with a duplicate of one map. (Frontispiece lacking, 6 of the plates or maps with damage or loss, L1 inserted from a smaller copy, crude early colouring to one map, one plate and 4 of the illustrations, one of these illustrations holed as a result of oxidisation of the colour.) Contemporary dark morocco, border of fillets and drawer-handle tools (worn at extremities, spine repaired at foot). Provenance: County-governor Marilier (presentation inscription from ?J.F.Hgdahl, dated 1703); Charles Peter Gedda of Gothoburg (ownership inscriptions, both dated 1831); S.T.Ahrenburg (inscription dated 1859).
FIRST EDITION of the "best early account of settlements on the Delaware," (Howes). The author never visted America, so that the work "is made up from verbal accounts received from his father, and notes left by his grandfather, to which he has added facts obtained from the manuscripts of Peter Lindstrm, an engineer," (Duponceau). A part work by Urban Hirne is bound at the back (Den Korta Anledingen til Athskillige Malm och Bergarters Mineraliers och Jordeslags etc. Eftersprjande och angifwande Beswarad och Frklarad.
