The first view is dedicated to John Stuart, Viscount Mountstuart, the second to Luigi de Walmoden, the third to Conte di Cobenzl, and the fourth to Sir William Hamilton. Stuart, son of the 3rd Earl of Bute, visited Naples between March and April 1765; Hamilton resided there as diplomat for 36 years, from 1764 to 1800.
