(Ownership inscription on blank recto of imprimatur leaf showing through on verso, title shaved and with small ink stain, segment torn from outer margin of B8, some marginal soiling and spotting.) Later 19th-century calf by Mansell (upper cover lacking). Provenance: J. S. Sarknes (early 20th-century ownership inscription).
FIRST EDITION of a rare and charming practical manual. The author declares himself 'a poulterer' and offers tips and advice on the means of judging the age and freshness of a wide variety of poultry, health disorders, and feeding methods. Four editions were published before 1699 and all are rare. Wing S3427B: locating only one other copy of the first edition (BL).
