Lucien Pissarro and his daughter Orovida went to stay at Rye in July 1913 while Pissarro's wife Esther was recuperating from an illness at Eragny in Switzerland. They shared their rented cottage with their friends the Mansons and James Brown, a musical scholar and amateur painter and his family.
