Lot Essay

Cooke arrived at Honfleur by steamer from Le Havre, on 6 September 1833 and commented in his diary 'most extraordinary place for picturesque effect - wonderful streets of old houses. Harbour full of vessels and fishing craft, plenty of diligences, carts. Sk'd [sic] Church, charette &c Dined at Hotel Cheval Blanc opposite the Harbour, sketch'd fort & Piers in evng. Paraded the town & slept at the Cheval Blanc'.
