Lot Essay

The present watercolour came from a sketchbook used by de Wint, on a visit to Lincolnshire in 1816.
Pollarded willows, were characteristic of the Lincolnshire marsh and fen-edge in de Wint's time. The new growth was harvested for traditional agricultural wicker-work. Another watercolour of pollarded willows was with Colnaghi, December 1973.
