Lot Essay

Thomas Robins, Jun. was the son of Thomas Robins (1715-1770), a topographical painter and draughtsman, who used flowers as decorative features in the borders of his views of country houses. One such watercolour, The Grounds of Honington Hall showing the Ornamental Water designed by Sanderson Miller, was sold at Christie's London, 14 July 1987, lot 135 (45,000). Robins Jun. was probably his father's pupil and imitated his style.
